Stan�s defeated golds at mcpeck field 11-8 .
Golds started slow in early innings with Stan�s
making the decisive plays to keep golds off the
board untill fourth inning , golds hitters came
alive tying game at six going into bottom of six,
Stan�s put up a five spot and golds fought back
in eight but fell short .
Flash Prisco pitched a great seven inngs ,
Scott babrowski played some great third base
and the outfield made some good catches
Santamoreno , miller McCracken 3hits each ,
John Latino Paul Latino and McCracken with
two rbi each.

With no outs and runners on 1st and 2nd Base,

grounder, stepped on 3rd Base for one out,
and threw a strike to Denny Walsh at
2nd Base for a nice double play.

In a game that seen unbelievable aerobatic defensive
plays by the PP, mixed with errors by Restaurant Runners,
and timely hits from PP, Restaurant Runners never had
a chance. Restaurant Runners
was playing with 11 players, they seen PP max scores "5"
runs in two innings.

RESTRUNNR
In a game that seen restaurants runners
play on all cylinder, great pitching ,
great defense and timely hitting.
Restaurant runners scored every inning
but the 5th. PP was playing short handed
and RR took advantage of the middle and
gaps in the outfield. PP hit the ball
hard but the defense of Paul Krupin and
Freddie Patterson, Lou Post and Rich Hill
help stop PP rallies , the outfield of
Mike Vuozzo, Mike" Razz" Rassin ,
Frank Goberish and Gerald Hough
worked hard to keep PP to singles
and even a diving catch by Mike Raaz.
Great pitching of Rich Mauceri his
fast ball was clocked at 25mph and
his change up was clocked at 10mph
it kept the great hitters of Picture
perfect off balance. Frank " Mike Piazza"
Navarra called a great game and kept
Rich Mauceri focused. Frank even had
an assist at the plate.

With a runner on 2nd Base "Five on Two"
in the top of the first inning, a batter
hit a line-drive single to left field,
and Gene Fischer threw to Jaime Pagan
at Shortstop who made a quick relay
throw to Catcher Frank Gohl for the
force-out to prevent the 5th run from
scoring in the first inning.
"Defensive Player of the Game" for
PPP was second baseman Rick Lyons
who caught two hard-hit line drives,
and fielded a couple of grounders
for outs. At the end of the game,
losing pitcher Steve Lynch was
overheard to exclaim:
"It's NOT MY FAULT -
I only walked two batters"!!!

Both teams were neck and neck with tying
scores in the first 4 innings.
Then Mike and Joes started pulling ahead and
found themselves with a 3 run lead in the
bottom of the seventh. In the top of the
eighth Stan's bats really came alive and
they put up 7 in the unlimited inning.
In the bottom of the eighth Mike and Joes
battled back and had bases loaded with 2
outs and the winning run on first.
A hard hit grounder to third, played clean
by the third baseman who then stepped on the
base to make the final out. Game over
and Stan's got the win.

TaxBrakes defeated Sims Podiatry by the score
of 11-10. The TaxBrakes bats were very
quiet the first 5 innings but kept the
game close with a very strong defense
led by Al Hicks turning 3 double plays.
TaxBrakes offense came alive in the 6th
with 5 runs led by Roger Merritt�s 3 run
HR tying the game, then taking the lead
in the 7th. Sims Podiatry fought back
in the top of the eighth and tied the
game. TaxBrakes scored the winning
run in the bottom of the eighth with the
speed of Roger Simon with a very
close play at the plate.

unhittible pitching from gary the ace
lasko. Golds scored only 1 run in the
first six innings but great pitching
from Andy endsley keep golds in the
game untill the end . For golds defensive
was solid all around hilighted by two
outstanding catches in right center by
Marty Santer and double plays turned by
frank Santamoreno and Scott brabowski .
McCracken , Paul Latino and Greg miller
each 3-4 and frank santamoreno 2-4.

a score of 5-4. This game was all
about pitching and defense.
Gary Lasko pitched a great game
coupled with outstanding defense
stopping almost every ball hit up
the middle. The infield led by
Al Hicks turning at least 3 double
plays on balls hit to Roger Merritt,
Tony Scaduto and John Berrocal.
Keith MacArthur played a great first
base making scooping one hop
throws look easy.

The Pirates fired their big guns in the
top of the first inning and scored a
big 5 spot. Did Stans give up? No.
Cause it�s not over till Stans says
it�s over. It took 2 innings to catch
up and pass but the men of Stans were
clutch and hit and fielded when it counted.
Stans scored 5 runs one inning with 2 outs.
3 of Stans outfielders made great catches
and the other one did not make any errors
for the second game in a row.
He did field a rolling ball and throw to
Eddie Smilkstein who threw to Joe Napolitano
at home to nab the Pirates runner.
Frank McHugh and Bobby Levoit both made
some nifty plays at third and short field
respectively. Steve Savod pitched a great
and gutsy game and won his third decision.

Restaurant Runners v.s Safeguard,
In a game that seen a injury depleted
Restaurant Runners playing a tough Safe
guard team with the leagues best player
and Good hitters throughout their lineup.
RR knew they had to hit and play tough
defense against SG in order to keep
the game close., RR came out of the box
and put 3 runs on the board,
Bottom half SG would push across one run,
but there could have been more runs if not
for great defense of Freddie Patterson and
Paul Kurpin, Joe Kupiec and Lou Post the
first inning would have been worse.
Again in the top of the second RR came back
and scored 3 more runs but bottom half SG
put up a one spot to make the score 6-2,
Now RR never takes a team lightly so they
came back and put up another 3 runs in the
top of the third inning, but in the bottom
half SG scores 2 runs to make the score 9-4,
RR kept the pressure on and scored 3 more
runs in the top of the 4th, SG came back
with a 1 heading into the top of the 5th
trailing 12-5, RR wouldn't score in the5th,
but SG came back and put up 2 runs cutting
the lead to 12-6,top of the 6th RR came back
with another 3 runs taking a 15-6 lead into
the 7th inning, Restaurant Runners would
score 5 runs in the top of the 7th to widen
the lead to 20-6, SG would score 3 more runs
ove rthe last two innings for a final score
of Restaurant Runners 20-safeguard 9.
RR would score 3 runs in 4 straight inings
and another 3 in the 6th...3's were wild!!
Great game by both teams good defense mixed
with some clutch hitting made for a great
competitive game.

were executed by the infield.

GREAT Defensive Plays by PPP:
In the 2nd inning, Stans Team had
one run in and bases-loaded with one out.
A batter hit a pop up into shallow
right-centerfield and Short-Centerfielder
John "JP" Patterson raced over and
made a great "Snow-Cone" catch -
and almost threw a runner out at First Base.
Bases were still loaded - two outs.
The next batter hit a hard-hit line
drive into the left-centerfield gap,
BUT Left Fielder Gene Fischer made
a nice running catch to save at least
two runs from scoring.
Left Fielder Gene Fischer was PPP's
"Defensive Player of the Game" catching
several line drives and fly outs;
Rick Lyons played good defense at second base,
and "JP" Patterson played
good defense at short-centerfield.

with the heat today, losing 22-13 to
Gold's Gym.

Stans jumped out to an early lead
against Restaurant Runners, lost the lead,
came back to take the lead again and
then held off a valiant challenge from
the Restauranteurs to eke out a 12-10 victory.
The long season has begun to take its toll
as some of Stans stalwarts have been slowed
by injuries. Stan even had to take his
tenuously handed right fielder and put him
at short center field.
Other than being a little slow to cover
second base, he wasn�t horrible.

Restaurant Runners vs Stan's, a game where Stan's
did what they needed to do and Restaurant Runners
could do what they needed to do. Stan's jumped out to a
4 run 1st inning lead, RR could only get one run back,
heading into the second inning leading 4-1, Both team's defense
came alive and RR or stan's couldn't put a run on the board for
the next two innings. Top of the 4th seen stan's sticks
come alive they put 5 runs on the board, but Restaurant Runners
came right back with 5 in the bottom half of the 4th.
stan's was up 9-6 going into the 5th inning,RR defense shut down
the clutch hitting of stans, bottom of the 5th RR managed to
score 2 cutting stans lead to 9-8. No scoring in the 6th inning
for either teams, but stans would get ckutch hetting in the top
of the 7th scoring 3 runs, Restaurant Runners scored 2 in the 7th
making the score 12-10 headinh into the open inning [8th Open inning}
stans couldn't put a run on the board in the 8th leaving the
door open for Restaurant Runners in the 8thwith a 2 run lead
Stan's held on for the win. 12-10. Stans did what they need
to do, Restaurant Runners couldn't pull off the come back.....

With 2 outs Doc Ranucci caught a screaming line
drive heading to right field and made the last
out of the game. Denny Curtis patroled left
field by making 4 nice catches. Mark Battistoni
ran way back for a left field catch from short
stop. Joe Paoloni made a key double play taking
it himself. Sammy Duke pitched 4 scoreless innings
and closed down the middle and throwing to

A seesaw battle that opened up after the 4 inning,
The first 4 inning a total of 13 runs scored
with SP leading 7-6, The last 4 inning a total of
26 runs scored between the two teams with
Restaurant Runners scoring 15 runs to SP 11.
RR scored in every inning but the 3rd, SP scored
8 runs in the open inning {8th} to put a big
dent in the RR lead, with the score 21 to 11
heading to the bottom of the 8th, SP would go on
to score 8 runs and with 2 out the tiring run
at the plate a ground out for a 6-5 force out,
giving Restaurant Runners a 21-18 scare.
Great game by both team, a true sign that a senior
softball game is not over till the last out.

Safeguard played outstanding defense,

An undermanned but valiant Stans Team lost its
first game of the season on Thursday.

The Pirate�s came out ahead in a well
played tight game against Goldsgym.
It was 12-12 in the top of the 7th.
We picked up 2 runs in the top of the
7th then Capra shut them down.
The Pirates put up a goose egg in
the top of the 8th. Then Golds came
back got one in with runners on first
and second and one out. Then Ahouse
grabbed a hot shot up the middle and
turned a double Play to end the game.

Pirates defeated golds 14-13 in a back and
forth game with golds scoring only one run
in first three innings , but pirates where
held scoreless in four of the final six innings .
Game was tied at 12 a piece after 7 innings ,
pirates put up 2 in 8th , golds scored 1 with
tying run on base but pirates turned a game
ending dp on hard hit line drive to secure win .
Golds defence was led by frank santamoreno up
the middle and Marty Santer in outfield .
Andy endsley pitched complete game and

was a nail biter at Sports Park Sr today
as Stan’s welcomed Bob Lovitz back from California
and Rich Sicardo back from the IL. Tax Break struck
first with a run in the top of the first, Stan’s
came back with 2. They scored 4, we came back with 1.
All tied up after 3 and then again after 4.
Tax Break got up down 1, in the top of the 8th.
They struck hit after hit. It looked like they
might score 12 runs. But then our infield put
together a double play that settled things down
and restored order. When the third out was recorded,
they had scored 4, up by 3. But then it was Stan’s
turn to bat. We scored 3 and tied it up. 2 outs.
Steve Savod on third. I’m on second.
Joe Napolitano up at bat. Several teammates,
even my third base coach, told me to stay on second,
I don’t matter. I’ve been told that before. Anyway,
Joe hit a ball down the right field line!
Steve scored from third, Joe jogged to first and
I stayed on second as ordered and the applause
was deafening.

Inspired by our leader & sponsor's courageous
battle to keep his heart beating at the correct
rhythm, Picture Perfect was able to complete
the Portrait with an 11-10 win over the
Pirates of Poughkeepsie.
It was a well-played, fast tempo,
clean game on display by both teams.
Lynn Packer pitched like he had to
get home for a luncheon date & threw
nothing but strikes throughout,
including a strikeout to close out
the game in the bottom of the 8th inning.
Joe Broun knocked in the winning run in
he top of the 8th. Everyone contributed
both offensively & defensively.
The hitting standouts were

Bob Darnell 3-3; and Jim Kirzoncik & Jim Winslow 2-3.

What started out as a fairly Picture Perfect
day for four innings turned into a blurry photo
for the Portraits. The score was 8-7 Safeguard
through the 4th & then they decided to turn
their power on. Picture Perfect was slightly
undermanned & tried to stay afloat but couldn't
match Safeguard's power.
Hitting stars for Picture Perfect were Gene Fischer,
Joe Broun, Jim Kirzoncic & J P Patterson,
who went 3-4. Lynn Packer, Jim Winslow, Steve Schmid &
Jim D'Aleo contributed 2 hits apiece.

STANS
An enthusiastic but shorthanded Stan’s team
put together 32 hits today but still lost to
Golds Gym in 9 innings by the score of 17-18.
Leading by the score of 4-2 after 3 innings,
13-10 after 6 and tied at 15-15 after 7, Golds
just kept pounding the middle of the field
until they broke on through to the other side.
One play fielded better or one hit ball placed
better and it would have been a different story.
But noooo.

The game was tied at 15 after seven with both

found some clutch hits to score 3 and pull
of walk off win . Andy endsley won his third
straight win on mound . Flash Prisco at second

in a great come from behind victory.
Mike & Joe�s was ahead 13-1 after 3
innings then TaxBrakes made a defensive
change bringing in Rick Bretholtz to
relieve Gary Lasko as pitcher,
enabling him to go into the outfield
making outstanding catches and plays
which earned him the defensive player
of the game. This combined with Rick
shutting down Mike & Joe�s offense
allowing only one run in the remaining
5 innings gave TaxBrakes the opportunity
to catch up scoring multiple runs in
most of the remaining innings.
To top off the comeback Rick had the
winning RBI in the bottom of the
8th inning to win the game.

without being Tagged Out.
Home Plate Umpire Steve Lynch declared
"FAIR BALL" when Frank McHugh caught
the ball . . . BUT THEN Frank OVERRULED
the Home Plate Umpire and said:
"NO - I caught the ball in Foul territory"!
So - Steve Lynch reversed the call
to be "FOUL BALL"!!!
Note: I am 100% certain that IF the
game's score was close - Frank would
have made the SAME Honest Call. . . . .

It was a bright sunny day at Digilio today,
when Stans took on Picture Perfect.
Steve Savod took the mound and Picture Perfects
first batter got in the box. He got a hit.
Everything seemed normal.
The next batter came up and hit the ball
to the right center fielder.
AND THEN OH MY GOSH!! He Caught it.
The world had shifted on its axis as
he then caught 3 more balls throughout
the game. Will wonders never cease.
All together now: When the ball sticks
in your mitt and you feel like hot stuff,
that�s Senior Softball.
As usual the infield played like All Stars,
they even turned an unusual third to second
double play. In addition to the
aforementioned right center fielders
career peak day, newcomer Frank Chulo
caught one and Bob Lovoite evicted from the
infield caught 2 in left field in
the top of the eighth.

Despite an uncharacteristic gift of
12 unearned runs in first 3 innings,
Safeguard tightened its defense and
outscored a good Golds team 16-2 over
the final five frames to win 19-14.

Down on McPeck Stans came out strong
and put up 4 runs in the first inning
and held Mike & Joe's scoreless for the
first 3 innings. Mike and Joe's came back
with 4 runs in the 4 th inning.
In the top of the 8 th Mike and Joe's was
down 13 to 6. Then Sammy Duke came in to
the dug out to cheer his team on.
I don't know what he said but the next
thing you know the bats caught on fire
and Mike and Joe's came back with 13 runs.
Stan's quickly put up 3 runs in the bottom
of 8th. Mike and Joe's defense stayed
tough and held the lead for the win.

When you yell � I got it� you have
to get to the ball and catch it.
Stans survived that snafu for 7 innings
and built up a 4 run lead going into the
top of the eighth inning. And then the
roof fell in. Every fly ball fell in,
every ground ball found a hole and every
bloop hit came out to hurt us.
13 runs, Mike and Joe scored! Stans came
back with 3 but it was too little
and too late. We didn�t got it.

It was an embarrassment of riches.

infielders were superb and today, the

a ball or two. Yes, even the right center
fielder. If we play this well from here on out,
Stan will need a bigger trophy case.

Great Game by both teams , Timely hitting and
good defense combined with Rich Mauceri
Pitching kept PP off balance, PP would score
4 runs in the first and second inning
to taking a 8-3 lead, But Restaurant Runners
put a 5 spot on the board to tie the game
up at 8-8 . Then the RR hitters lead by the
hot hitting of Reggie Dolson, Tom Roberts ,
Mike Vuozzo, Paul Kurpin, Frank Goberish,
Mike Rassin and Joe Kupiec, Frank "Mike Piazza"
Navarra, Joe "Yogi Berra" DeMaria,
G- Man Hough, Rich" Catfish Hunter" Mauceri
scored 16 runs in the first 4 innings for RR.
Restaurant Runners could only push one run
in over the last 4 innings. Mixed with good
defense from PP and Steve Lynch's 45 MPH slider,
then Lynn Packer's 37 MPH curve it was
enough too shut down RR Offense. PP would
score 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning to
make the game interesting heading into the top
of the 7th inning cutting RR lead down to 3 runs.
Then in came DA' Coach to close the door
with great defense behind him and great
plays to shut down the talented hitting

In the second inning, Stans scored 5 runs
that the Sims team just couldn't overtake.
Stans went on to win 16-11 over
SimsPodiatry.

Al Casella went 4/4 with
Rick Sierra, Joe Bubel and
Joe Karam slamming 3 hits
each in the effort.
STANS
Stans ran out to a 15-5 lead today after
four innings, at Sports Pk Sr, over Sims Podiatry,
and then held on for a 16-11 win.
Winning pitcher Steve Savod was masterful,
striking out a handful and keeping things
under control. And Stans team defense was
no slouch either.
Rich Rella and Rich Sicardo both threw
runners out at the plate.
Bob Lavoite pulled a Matrix Style play
when a ball bounced off of Savod's
glove, into the air where Lavoite
waited for it to come down into his
glove, whereupon he threw the speedy
runner out at first. You should have
seen it. I can get you free tickets.
Even our right center fielder got into
the act with a catch on a high fly ball,
half an inning from being thrown out at
home on a boneheaded play.

by one run 8-7 . . . but then Taxbrakes'

The tension was palpable. First place on the line,
down by 7 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Things were not looking good.
Did Stans give up?
Did Stans just lie down their heads like
Tom Dooley. No! Because it�s not over
till we say it�s over!!
But first let me digress. Before the game
started Restaurant Runners and Stans lined
up on the basepaths and Chris Edwards gave
a short but heartfelt tribute to Jack Sullivan,
may he rest in peace.
Then the game started. Reggie Dolson, the first
Restaurant Runner player up hit a long
shot to the outfield and then stumbled on
his way to second base. The third player up also
stumbled and then fell just after second base
and was tagged out. He left the game and we hope
that he�s ok. It was not optimal playing
conditions but it would have to do.
They ended up scoring just 2.
Stans came back with 3. Then some outfield gaffs
led to 5 Restaurant runs and Stans answered
with 1 run. We matched 3�s in the third and
then Stans fell into a trance and Ben Anker�s
shoe blew up!! There was rubber all over the
infield. Just kidding but he did have to put
his sneakers on. While the Restaurateurs scored
3 more. And then 1 more, for a 14-7 lead in the
bottom of the sixth. Somewhere in there we had
bases loaded with one out but then one of our
batsman hit into an inning ending double play.
Still, we had scored 3. The jaws of defeat were
closing in around us. Things looked grim. We were
running out of time. In the seventh inning Lady
Luck and skill and never say die graced us.
Our right center fielder caught two balls.
After misplaying one and dropping one earlier
in the game. .500 is good, right? Anyway,
The Restaurateurs were shut out in seventh and
then Stans went to work. We scored one and
then get two on. Eddie Smilkstein hits a smash
to the pitcher. Eddie hustles to first before
the pitcher can find the handle and so now the
bases are loaded. Up steps Stan Smilkstein,
our manager and benefactor, batting left handed.
With a mighty swing he lifted a fly ball into
right that rolled to the fence. Everyone scored
for a prodigious Grand Salami and so we scored 5.
For a 15-14 lead. Top of the eighth, they score
1 to tie us up. Bottom of the eighth,
Frank McHugh hits a smash to left and runs to second.
Frank hustles to third on an out. Up steps Bob Lovite.
Game on the line. First place on the line.
Playoff position on the line.
Bob hits a smash to the left side while Frank speeds
home. The throw comes in. Frank comes in.

Stans wins 16-15!! Now it�s over!
Stans just wants to send our sincerest condolences
to Jack Sullivans family and all of the
Senior Softball Community. We will certainly
miss Jack and appreciate everything that he did
to promote a place for us to play and to make
so many great friendships.
We also wish our teammate, Ben Anker, a
successful surgery and will miss his presence
dearly. Ben, have an easy, fast and
painless recovery.

The juggernaut that is Stans just keeps on rolling.
Starting with a 2 spot in the first, Stans led
the whole game. Did I hear someone ask if the
right center fielder made an error today? Why
no, he did not. As a matter of fact Steve
Savod pitched such a great game that only
3 balls made it to the outfield. And when
Steve could use some help, he got it in the
form of 3 infield double plays. Our infield
of Guest star John Pucylowski, Joe DiChiara,
Bobby Lovite, Rich Rella, Frank McHugh and
Joe Napolitano played some awesome defense.
his game had everything that one could ask for.
Even a brew-ha-ha when Stans had the bases l
oaded and a player hit a pop up that their
pitcher touched in fair and then dropped
in foul and then started tagging out our
runners who had stayed put. I don�t know
how it was resolved because I was busy
talking to Mark Cuban about my sure fire
business ideas.

With the threat of rain, George Cole
seeing funnel clouds, and Jack Hale
saying he was sick and tired of people
talking about the weather,
our ACTING commissioner Frank Goberish got
the "Play In" game with a three swing
limit on batting practice started by 9am.
In the first inning, Picture Perfect's
leadoff hitter smashed an inside the park
home run. Then another run was driven in.
A bit shaken, Mike & Joe's was able to fight
back and score four runs. Mike & Joe's held
Picture Perfect scoreless for the next two
innings with the help of the double play
combination of Mike Battistoni, Doc Ranucci,
and Tom Milholm. In the fourth inning Picture
Perfect kept things close by scoring three runs,

Stans met Mike and Joes at Sports Park
Junior today in its first playoff game
of the season. Steve Savod again pitched
a gem as he kept Mike and Joes off of
the scoreboard in 5 of 8 innings.
In the meantime, Stans hit early and often.
And every one fielded.
Yes everyone. As usual, the infield was
like a vacuum cleaner. Stans built up an
8-6 lead by the fourth and then
just kept on tacking on.

Our play-in game became a play-out.
Despite great hopes as Picture Perfect's
leadoff batter, Jim Kirzoncic, smashing
a home run, things went slowly downhill
as Mike & Joe's turned four double plays
to quash hopes of any big innings.

With the threat of rain, George Cole
seeing funnel clouds, and Jack Hale
saying he was sick and tired of people
talking about the weather,
our ACTING commissioner Frank Goberish got
the "Play In" game with a three swing
limit on batting practice started by 9am.
In the first inning, Picture Perfect's
leadoff hitter smashed an inside the park
home run. Then another run was driven in.
A bit shaken, Mike & Joe's was able to fight
back and score four runs. Mike & Joe's held
Picture Perfect scoreless for the next two
innings with the help of the double play
combination of Mike Battistoni, Doc Ranucci,
and Tom Milholm. In the fourth inning Picture
Perfect kept things close by scoring three runs,
but Mike & Joe's came right back with four

A great game played by all,
but Stan's pulled out a victory
of 15 to 12.
For Sim's Rick Sierra, Joe Bubell and
Louie Rosenberg went for for four
as Bill Volpe and Al Cassella
hit 3 for four.
STANS
Stans beat a good team today in Sims
but it could have turned out very differently.
It was a total team effort.
All fourteen of us showed up and all of
us contributed to the win.
Sims hit us with a 5 spot in the top of
the first and we didn�t score until
we came back with a 5 spot of our
own in the bottom of the second.
And then again in the bottom of the
third. And then Sims scored 3 in the
top of the fourth to close to 10-8.
Stans kept scoring 2 for 1 the rest
of the way until Sims scored 1 in the
top of the eighth to finish
up the game. 15-12.

TaxBrakes with a depleted line played hard
but couldn�t stop the Restaurant Runners
